Meet Janet
My father was an avid hobbyist photographer. And so at the age of six, I started taking pictures, some of which I still have. Looking at them now, I have to say they were pretty good for being so young.
I worked as a contract photographer for the Army on Ft. Belvoir for four years, covering events, providing historical documentation and working in the studio. I loved what I did and working with the military and their families was very rewarding. During this time, I also freelanced, working with Sesame Workshop and Torre Photography, volunteering my time with various military non-profits and animal rescues, and if that wasn't enough, I was also a wedding photographer. At the time, I was a military spouse and the job, but not photography, came to an end when we relocated to North Carolina.
I received my Bachelor's of Art in Art from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where I focused on digital art and printmaking, along with photography. The majority of my art was (and still is) photography-based. I have been in numerous exhibitions, including international exhibitions, and my work has been seen in various publications. I also received a post-baccalaureate certificate in Graphic Design from George Mason University in Fairfax. Virginia.
To say I love photography is an understatement. Personally, my favorite subjects are nightscapes and macro (close-up) abstracts, but honestly I'm happiest with the camera in my hand.
Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee (Go Vols!), I've lived in the Northern Virginia area for 15 years. I love the Fredericksburg area for its rich history and diverse population, and it's where I make my home with my family and two spoiled dogs.
